So i’m hosting a new blog

i’m using the hugo system, with markdown source and compiling to a static website.

what does this mean?

nothing for you.. but ease of management and low overheads for me.

if i need to move, i change a line in a configuration file, recompile and upload to the new host.

why’d you choose markdown?

it’s an easy question to answer.

  1. Markdown cares about structure and doesn’t bother itself with formatting and display, like html used to..
  2. i’m not a graphics designer..
  3. revision control for the win!!, yeah that can be used for plain html.. but it’s easier here
  4. markdown covers up some mistakes in foratting.. these items are marked 1,2,4 and 6 in the source.
  5. I can edit from a terminal.. This will come up later as to why that’s important

why compile a site?

sure there’s plenty of website CMS’s out there using all sorts of frameworks.. but things don’t need to be as dynamic as they are.

what’s the really important thing? the message i’m trying to say, from my mouth to your ears… so to speak..

make it easy to add, update etc.. and oh yeah, low overheads… did i mention those? i’ll be seeking the simplest theme that looks good. Lightweight and fast beats dynamic any day.

After all, why compute pages on every access when i can do it all up front and do it once.

what’l I post

mostly things i find fun.. fun of course can cover a lot of subjects, keep an eye on the tags.

so, yeah
